Integrity is synonymous with honesty, truthfulness, and uprightness. What does that have to do with brand strategies? Everything. Today, I’m talking about how integrity in everything you do equates to a sincere – and highly attractive – brand message.
At How to Build a Brand, we’re always talking about the importance of naming your personal and corporate values in brand strategies, and then communicating them through brand identities. This will attract the consumers who share your values, and the relationships that develop will be authentic ones from which brand loyalty springs.

Another reason is integrity. Allow me to explain.
Brand Strategies with Integrity Stand Upright
When I say a “person of integrity,” what comes to mind? Does he keep his word? Can he be trusted? Can she be expected to do what she says she will do? Is she reliable? Most of you will have answered “yes” to all of these questions.
Do you think that most people expect the same from the brands they deal with? I would say that yes, they want that; however, we are finding that in the 21st Century, integrity in a brand is becoming more and more difficult to find.
That’s good news for you, particularly if you plan to live your values through your brand and be the upright brand you want to see in the world.
A brand that demonstrates integrity says and does things that align with its values. Even when no one is looking, the brand and its representatives stay true to those values, proving that they can be trusted – and as you know, one of the basic tenets of building a brand is establishing trust.
Here are just a few ways you can build integrity into your brand strategies:
- Whether you’re communicating using email, social media, telephone, or in-person exchanges, think about how you would like to be treated and spoken to. Treat others as you wish to be treated, and you’re sure to live your brand’s values, with integrity, in every communication.
- Don’t fake anything. Too often, brands portray one image in their marketing and yet another when off-the-record. Represent your brand with truthfulness and authenticity from the start, and no one will ever accuse you of fraudulence.
- Do what you love and your passion for your brand will radiate from all that you do, making every transaction authentically joyful. What customer wouldn’t want to be a part of that?
- Integrity is something that is rarely forgotten. Prove that you really are what you say, and brand loyalty will be yours for the taking.
Even when your integrity-rich brand message reaches those who aren’t necessarily interested in what you’re offering, they will be impressed with the uprightness of your brand. They will be willing – and even proud – to recommend you to their friends and family members (who might turn out to be your ideal clients).
From inception to building to evolution, brand strategies should always demonstrate integrity. Stay true to your values. Do what you love. Deliver in action what your words promise. Soon, your brand will become the brand that you – and all of your loyal clients – want to see in the world.
